I collected thousands of discarded lotus flowers, originally offered at temples this September, during Cambodia’s most important annual holiday of Pchum Benh. You might know this festival by the Chinese term “Hungry Ghosts” — when the gates of hell are opened for a fortnight. Monks continuously pray for protection, and devotees literally shower temples with cooked rice offerings.
I am now preparing another batch of ink, which should be fixed by this time next year, 2020. Yet preparing this “sacred ink” is only one of many other things happening with my art — such as my recent exhibition at Serindia in Bangkok, and my upcoming exhibition at Sofitel Pokheetra Phnom Penh in February 2020.
