POLKINGHORNE
With a fresh cut lotus stalk as my brush and some ink I’ve made from lotus petals, I commence with one dot. Guided by a vision that is in my minds eye, I see it for the first time when I step back and gaze upon the finished piece. In that moment, I’m electrified by a surge of joy and pride. It’s as if the artwork has taken on a life of its own, speaking directly from my soul.
For me, creating art is a journey of self-discovery, a way to tap into the deepest recesses of my own emotions and experiences. And when I share my art with others, I’m inviting them to connect with me on a profound level. I hope you’ll find a piece that resonates with you, that sparks a sense of recognition or wonder.
When I paint, it not just the finished artwork, it’s the effort, it’s the ink I make, it’s the meaning behind the creation. It’s the emotions I try to impart as I create the work into the brush strokes. It’s also the beautiful locations I am able to paint in.
I title each of my paintings based on the total of lotus embossed stamps on each piece,
and I include the exact number as part of my artists signature.
As of 19 August, 2025 I’ve created a total off 691,552 lotus impressions
I create an organic ink medium from the materials I am painting with.
This is a truly holistic, natural art process, beginning with Cambodian flowers and rainwater
first sanctified then symbolically transformed.
Like the beauty of a lotus emerging from its murky origins,
I transform the blessings of lotus flowers following the Lord Buddhaís birthday
renewed with the life-giving monsoonal rainwaters of Southeast Asia.
