Monsoon Muoy (#1)
Monsoon in Cambodia is my favourite season. As I was painting my first lotus artwork for the year, a monsoon hit and the skies opened up and rain fell upon Phnom Penh. The power of this season’s rains exhilarates me. The daily heat and the tension in the atmosphere builds up until finally when the afternoon monsoon hit, its deluge creates a coolness and an energy that fills the atmosphere. It is the calm after the storm, a cooling calm.
The monsoon hit in Phnom Penh. The power it created as it rained all around me. Water was everywhere. There was no place to go except under a shop awning. The streets filled and the temperature dropped. This was all over in a matter or minutes, leaving the remaining day filled with an electrifying cool energy.
